Schools out groups

Fun-based groups during the school holidays

Our free fun-based groups are for children and young people who are currently being supported by Once Upon a Smile.

The groups provide a supportive and understanding environment where children and young people come together with others who share similar experiences.  They allow children to process their grief in a less intimidating way while developing emotional strength and connection.

Key benefits of our groups include:

  • Emotional expression
  • Reduces Isolation
  • Promotes a sense of control
  • Promotes social connection
  • Strengthens resilience
  • Reduced anxiety
  • Encourages coping skills
  • Facilitates memory and connection
  • Improves mental and emotional well-being

Sidley House half term group

Each half term we provide the opportunity for children to come together for fun and friendship making, at Sidley House.

“She had such a lovely session and always comes home with a smile. She is happy to be involved and around the other children and staff”.

Outdoor activities

Gives children & young people an opportunity to try something new or build on existing skills.  A time to come together and have fun.

“I was nervous at first, being introduced to the other young people did break the ice and I went on to have a great time Kayaking.”

“My child has never done any water sports because they felt scared. My child really enjoyed themselves, told me about the games they played, how easy it was, and they enjoyed talking to the other kids. Their favourite part was going over the waves the speedboat made.”

Special interest groups

Children’s and young people’s voices are very important to us. We develop groups and activities around their interests and ideas.

“My child absolutely loved the event. They had a wonderful time and it was so good for him to meet others and make some new friends”.
