Brighter Futures

Supporting young adults aged 18-25

Our Brighter Futures programme provides support to young adults bereaved of a parent whilst caring for younger siblings.

We understand that a young adults life will change direction when they become the guardian to their younger siblings. Having to manage multiple responsibilities, feeling isolated and not knowing where to turn to can bring added stresses to their own grief.  Education and employment may be affected causing further stresses on their mental and physical health.

Our brighter futures programme will be tailored to the needs of each young person taking into consideration their circumstances, support network and financial position.

Ways in which we aim to support

  • Educational attainment – support with educational resources and any other stresses that arise.
  • Wellbeing – this will differ for each young adult and will provide opportunities to access activities to support their health and wellbeing
  • Practical support – where possible we will look to support with financial burdens such as school uniforms for siblings, grocery vouchers and support with benefit entitlements and travel.
  • Support and Guidance – dedicated bereavement support practitioner assigned to each family.

Younger siblings will have access to our support programmes, including Creating Smiles and our One Step Further, if in education.
