Bereavement support bags

We’re here for you bags

These special bags have been carefully designed by our team of Bereavement Support Practitioners to support children and young people who have experienced the death of a parent or guardian, sibling, or grandparent within the last three months.

The bags are fully funded by Once Upon a Smile and are provided to schools free of charge. Each bag costs us £13.21, plus postage and packaging.

To help us continue offering this vital support, please take a moment to read and understand the following information.

We recognise that school life can be extremely busy. In the past, when bags were sent to schools to keep in stock, some were unfortunately misplaced. To prevent this, we now provide bags on request only. This ensures each bag reaches the child or young person who needs it most, and we dispatch all requested bags promptly.

Things to think about

  • A single point of contact within the school setting should be the nominated lead in the distribution of these bags.
  • This bag is to be given out when a child has experienced the sudden death of a loved one, or within 3 months of being bereaved.
  • Please check with the family prior to distributing to the child or young person to ensure they consent.
  • Ensure the child or young person has not already received a bag from Once Upon a Smile charity.
  • The bag comes as a whole and items should not be distributed separately.
